applEcon’s client Valassis settles its lawsuit with News America for $500 million

News America Marketing, a division of the News Corporation that publishes coupon inserts for newspapers and sells in-store advertising in supermarkets, had been sued in three jurisdictions by Valassis, a competitor based in Livonia, Michigan, which accused it of anticompetitive behavior. The company agreed to pay $500 million to settle the litigation.

applEcon client Metropolitan Taxicab Board of Trade wins Second Circuit Court ruling

Metropolitan Taxicab Board of Trade recently won a Second Circuit ruling affirming a previously granted preliminary injunction against certain regulations proposed by the New York City Taxicab & Limousine Commission.

applEcon, working with Professor Jim Levinsohn of Yale University, provided economic analysis and testimony that was instrumental to the initial grant of preliminary injunction.
